Target Information

Creatine kinase M-type catalyzes the reversible transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens, such as creatine phosphate. Creatine kinase isoenzymes are crucial in energy transduction within tissues that experience significant and intermittent energy demands, including skeletal muscle, heart, brain, and spermatozoa. In mice, creatine kinase is essential for muscle function, sustaining muscle energy metabolism and normal operation by catalyzing ATP regeneration, managing energy reserves, and coupling with other cellular functions, such as calcium regulation. However, alterations in CK activity can also indicate abnormal energy metabolism associated with muscle damage or disease states.
