Target Information

The protein known as Transforming Growth Factor-Beta-Induced Protein Ig-h3 is involved in cell adhesion and may play a role in interactions between cells and collagen. In mice, TGFBI is associated with various biological functions such as tumor suppression, protection of the cardiovascular system, immune and metabolic regulation, and tissue repair. In a model of type 1 diabetes, the lack of TGFBI results in impaired function of the islets and an increased presence of T cells in the pancreas, which intensifies pathological damage. Mice that are deficient in TGFBI exhibit metabolic issues including the enlargement of adipose tissue, liver steatosis, and insulin resistance.
