Target Information
Caprine SDMA is an endogenous biomarker used to evaluate renal function in goats. It is produced through the post-translational methylation of arginine residues by PRMT enzymes and is released into the systemic circulation during protein degradation. Since it is almost entirely excreted via glomerular filtration, serum SDMA levels provide a highly sensitive measurement of the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). Crucially, Caprine SDMA is not influenced by muscle mass or age, making it superior to creatinine for the early detection of chronic kidney disease.
