Target Information

DNA topoisomerase 2-alpha is a crucial decatenating enzyme that modifies DNA topology by binding to two double-stranded DNA molecules, creating a double-stranded break in one of them, passing the intact strand through the break, and then religating the broken strand. In mice, TOP2A is vital for various biological processes, particularly in the onset, progression, and treatment of cancer. It has significant functions in mouse prostate cancer models; studies indicate that TOP2A is pivotal in the metastasis and progression of prostate cancer in mice. Research using a mouse transplant model has demonstrated that TOP2A is significantly upregulated in metastatic tumors and is associated with more aggressive cancer forms.
