Target Information
TIR domain-containing adapter molecule 1 plays a crucial role in innate immunity against invading pathogens. It serves as an adapter for TLR3, TLR4 (via TICAM2), and TLR5 to mediate the activation of NF-kappa-B and interferon-regulatory factor (IRF), as well as to induce apoptosis. Ticam1 is essential for antiviral immunity. For instance, in cases where mice were infected with Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), those deficient in Ticam1 exhibited an altered IFN-β expression pattern and had a significantly reduced survival rate. Furthermore, Ticam1 is involved in the immune response to the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Mice lacking Ticam1 are unable to effectively limit HBV replication, highlighting Ticam1's important role in viral RNA sensing and antiviral defense. Ticam1 also regulates immune responses by inhibiting IL-17A-mediated inflammatory responses. In the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model, mice without Ticam1 displayed more severe inflammatory responses.
