Target Information
The succinate dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] cytochrome b small subunit is a membrane-anchoring component of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), which plays a critical role in complex II of the mitochondrial electron transport chain by transferring electrons from succinate to ubiquinone (coenzyme Q). Complete deletion of the Sdhd gene leads to embryonic lethality in mice, typically occurring early in embryonic development (E6.5 to E7.5). However, heterozygous (Sdhd+/-) mice survive but exhibit mitochondrial function defects, including reduced activity of mitochondrial complex II and a decreased ability to respond to hypoxia.
