Target Information
Platelet-derived growth factor C (PDGF-C) is a crucial growth factor involved in regulating embryonic development, cell proliferation, migration, survival, and chemotaxis. As a powerful mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal-origin cells, it is vital for normal skeletal formation during embryonic development, particularly for the craniofacial skeleton and palate. In mice, PDGF-C has diverse functions, including regulation of lung and early embryonic development, the tumor microenvironment, metabolic processes, skeletal muscle regeneration, and oral and craniofacial development. It is prominently expressed during early embryonic stages, such as the fertilized egg and blastocyst stages (two-cell, eight-cell, and blastocyst stages). In aged mice, PDGF-C expression increases significantly in the tumor microenvironment, especially in metastatic tumors. Research indicates that PDGF-C enhances the survival and metastasis of tumor-associated fibroblasts by binding to PDGFR, thereby aiding in tumor progression and metastasis.
