Target Information
Interleukin 12A is encoded by the IL12A gene in sheep. IL12A is a subunit of the cytokine Interleukin-12 (IL-12). IL-12 has diverse functions, including activation of immune responses. It has been reported that IL12A is one of the genes identified as under selection in sheep populations exposed to Haemonchus contortus, a blood-sucking parasite that inhabits the abomasum of the host and is responsible for weight loss, anemia, and reduced performance.
