Target Information
N-glycosylase/DNA lyase is a DNA repair enzyme responsible for cutting DNA at 8-oxoG residues. It removes 7,8-dihydro-8-oxoguanine and 2,6-diamino-4-hydroxy-5-N-methylformamidopyrimidine (FAPY) from damaged DNA and exhibits beta-lyase activity, nicking DNA 3' to the lesion. In mice, Ogg1 plays a significant role in metabolic health. Studies have shown that mice lacking Ogg1 are more prone to obesity, fatty liver, and insulin resistance when on a high-fat diet. This susceptibility is associated with impaired mitochondrial function, decreased fatty acid oxidation, and abnormal glucose metabolism.
