Target Information
Growth/differentiation factor 3 (GDF3) is a growth factor involved in early embryonic development and the maintenance of adipose tissue homeostasis. During embryogenesis, it regulates the formation of the anterior visceral endoderm and mesoderm and helps establish anterior-posterior identity through a receptor complex that includes ACVR1B and the coreceptor CRIPTO. In mice, GDF3 plays several physiological roles, including immune regulation, fat metabolism regulation, tissue regeneration, and signal transduction. Regarding tissue regeneration, GDF3 has been shown to promote muscle regeneration and enhance the fusion capacity of primary myoblasts. In aged mice, reduced GDF3 levels are associated with decreased muscle regeneration capacity; supplementing with rGDF3 can improve this delayed regeneration response. Additionally, GDF3 is involved in embryonic development, differentiation, and energy metabolism.
