Target Information
Growth/differentiation factor 10 (GDF10) is a growth factor that plays a role in osteogenesis and adipogenesis. It inhibits osteoblast differentiation through the SMAD2/3 pathway and also suppresses adipogenesis. In a mouse model of stroke, GDF10 has been shown to support axon growth and facilitate functional recovery. Studies indicate that GDF10 enhances axon growth in cortical neurons and improves motor recovery via the TGFβ receptor signaling pathway. Overexpression of GDF10 significantly boosts motor coordination and performance in grid walking tests in mice, whereas reducing GDF10 levels hampers these recovery processes. Additionally, GDF10 aids functional recovery post-stroke by promoting angiogenesis and astrogliosis.
