Target Information
Clara cell protein 16 (CC16) is a 15.8 kDa single-chain secretory protein produced by Clara cells in the bronchial epithelium of mice, primarily found in the distal airways such as bronchioles and terminal bronchioles. CC16 is known for its significant anti-inflammatory properties, as it reduces inflammatory responses by inhibiting phospholipase A2 (PLA2) activity and diminishing the bioactivity of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), thus curtailing its pro-inflammatory effects. CC16 is also linked to environmental exposure; for instance, after ozone (O3) exposure, CC16 levels in mouse serum significantly increase, suggesting its potential role as an early biomarker for ozone-induced lung injury.
