Target Information
Interleukin 16 (IL-16) triggers a migratory response in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils, preparing CD4+ T-cells to respond to IL-2 and IL-15. It also promotes the expression of the interleukin 2 receptor on T-lymphocytes and acts as a ligand for CD4. In mice, IL-16 serves various roles, including immune regulation, cell migration, neuroinflammation, and involvement in cardiovascular and tumor-related pathological processes. Research has shown that in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis, IL-16 expression is significantly elevated, suggesting its involvement in central nervous system inflammation. Additionally, IL-16 expression in the brain and spinal cord tissues of mice is closely linked to the level of neuroinflammation, highlighting its potential role in neuroimmune regulation.
