ANP, a hormone secreted by atrial cells, operates by binding to the A-type natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR-A). Mice lacking NPR-A exhibit significant myocardial hypertrophy, whereas those overexpressing ANP show reduced heart volume, underscoring ANP's vital role in maintaining heart health. Additionally, ANP possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties.
