Target Information
Apolipoprotein C-I acts as an inhibitor of the binding of lipoproteins to the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, the LDL receptor-related protein, and the very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) receptor. It associates with high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and the triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins in the plasma, comprising about 10% of the protein content in VLDL and 2% in HDL. Apolipoprotein C-I seems to directly impede fatty acid uptake and serves as the primary plasma inhibitor of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). In mice, ApoC-I serves various biological functions, including regulation of lipid metabolism, modulation of the inflammatory response, immune regulation, and cognitive function. Research indicates that ApoC-I impacts lipid metabolism in mice primarily by inhibiting the clearance of chylomicrons (VLDL) and very-low-density lipoproteins (LDL). For instance, mice with overexpressed ApoC-I exhibit significantly elevated triglyceride levels and liver fatty degeneration, both of which are linked to abnormal lipoprotein circulation.
