Target Information

Transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) is a polypeptide belonging to the transforming growth factor beta superfamily of cytokines. This secreted protein has diverse cellular functions and plays a crucial role in regulating the immune system, exhibiting varied effects on different cell types or cells at various developmental stages. Most immune cells, or leukocytes, secrete TGF-β1. Additionally, TGF-β1 differentially regulates the expression of integrin subunits in guinea pig airway epithelial cells. Guinea pigs are extensively used as models for respiratory diseases, particularly asthma and airway remodeling. TGF-β1's role in airway fibrosis and smooth muscle remodeling has been investigated in guinea pig models.
