Target Information
Angiopoietin-1 (Ang1) binds to and activates the TEK/TIE2 receptor by inducing its dimerization and tyrosine phosphorylation. This protein is crucial for regulating angiogenesis, promoting endothelial cell survival, proliferation, migration, and adhesion, as well as cell spreading and the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton. It also helps maintain vascular quiescence. In mice, Ang1 is primarily involved in vascular development, stability, and tissue repair. Overexpression of Ang1 in mouse skin results in larger and more branched vascular networks, indicating its potential use, either alone or alongside VEGF, to promote therapeutic angiogenesis. During tumor growth and metastasis, Ang1 contributes by regulating tumor angiogenesis and maintaining microenvironment stability. For instance, Ang1 can partially compensate for tumor angiogenesis defects in COUP-TFII-deficient mice.
