Target Information
In goats, CH25H is a membrane-associated enzyme that converts cholesterol into 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC). It functions as a crucial mediator of the caprine innate immune response, particularly as an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG). By producing 25-HC, it restricts the replication of small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs), such as Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis Virus (CAEV), by disrupting viral-cell membrane fusion. It is a key target for research into caprine inflammatory diseases, lipid metabolism, and host-pathogen interactions in veterinary science.
