Target Information
In mice, Tartrate-Resistant Acid Phosphatase 5b (TRAP5b) is primarily involved in bone resorption and the immune response. This enzyme, secreted by osteoclasts, is integral to bone metabolism, and its expression level serves as a biomarker for assessing bone resorption and osteoclast activity. While TRAP5b is predominantly expressed by osteoclasts, it is also found in activated macrophages in mouse models. Additionally, TRAP5b plays a role in immune responses; for instance, overexpression in mouse head kidney macrophages significantly enhances phagocytic activity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and the release of inflammatory factors. These observations suggest that TRAP5b is important in the innate immune system, particularly in combating bacterial infections.
