Target Information

Prolactin is a key hormone in mammary gland development and lactation in mammals. Studies have shown that prolactin promotes milk secretion by stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of mammary cells. For example, in goats, prolactin secretion is closely related to the lactation process, and its level is significantly elevated during lactation. Prolactin is encoded by the PRL gene in goats. Concentrations of the single-chain polypeptide hormone PRL are associated with wool or cashmere traits, and its seasonal changes may determine patterns of enzymatic activity and may affect cashmere fibre growth and moult.
