Target Information

Lactic acid is an organic acid that is widely distributed in animal tissues and is used in the biosynthesis of proteins. Lactic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) due to the presence of a hydroxyl group adjacent to the carboxyl group. Lactic acid is produced in both artificial synthesis and natural sources. A feature of the disturbance in the goats was that a metabolic alkalosis preceded the onset of lactic acidosis.
