Target Information

Von Willebrand Factor is encoded by the VWF gene in dogs. VWF promotes platelet adhesion to the subendothelial matrix at sites of vascular injury. It acts as a bridge between platelets and exposed collagen fibers in damaged blood vessels. In humans, pigs, and dogs, VWF is a large, adhesive glycoprotein that supports hemostasis by mediating platelet adhesion to injured vascular surfaces. The canine VWF gene has been localized to canine chromosome 27.
