Target Information
Interleukin 12 (IL-12) is an interleukin naturally produced by dendritic cells. The IL-12 family is unique for its heterodimeric cytokines, which include IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, and IL-35. IL-12 plays a role in the differentiation of naive T cells into Th1 cells and is known as a T cell-stimulating factor, capable of enhancing T cell growth and function. It promotes the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) by T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, while also reducing IL-4-mediated suppression of IFN-γ. Studies are being done using IL-12 in oncolytic virus therapies, and other cancer therapies, within hamster models.
