Target Information
Collagen type XVII alpha 1 chain (COL17A1), previously called BP180, is a transmembrane protein critical for maintaining the linkage between intracellular and extracellular structural elements involved in epidermal adhesion. It is a structural component of hemidesmosomes, multiprotein complexes at the dermal-epidermal basement membrane zone that mediate adhesion of keratinocytes to the underlying membrane. Bovine Collagen type XVII alpha 1 chain is encoded by the COL17A1 gene in cattle. Bullous pemphigoid antigen 180 (BP180)/type XVII collagen is a transmembrane hemidesmosomal protein.
