Target Information

Bovine Betaine-Homocysteine S-Methyltransferase 1 is encoded by the BHMT gene in cattle. It is involved in the regulation of homocysteine metabolism. This reaction is also required for the irreversible oxidation of choline. This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring one-carbon group methyltransferases. BHMT and BHMT2 convert homocysteine to methionine using betaine and S-methylmethionine, respectively, as methyl donor substrates.

Target/Biomarker Bovine BHMT
Target Synonym betaine--homocysteine S-methyltransferase; betaine--homocysteine S-methyltransferase 1; betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase
Gene ID 497025
UniProt ID Q5I597
