Target Information
Rabbit Haptoglobin (HP) is a plasma glycoprotein primarily synthesized in the liver. It plays a crucial role in binding free hemoglobin released during hemolysis, preventing oxidative damage and kidney injury. HP acts as an antioxidant and an acute-phase protein, regulating immune responses and inflammation. In rabbits, HP is essential for capturing free hemoglobin, allowing its degradation and recycling of heme iron while protecting renal function. Additionally, HP has antimicrobial properties and can modulate immune responses. Its expression increases during inflammation, highlighting its importance in the acute-phase response. HP is also involved in the clearance of hemoglobin via the CD163 receptor on macrophages.
