Target Information
In felines, lysosomal alpha-mannosidase (MAN2B1) is a key enzyme involved in the degradation of N-linked oligosaccharides during glycoprotein metabolism. It hydrolyzes α-mannosidic linkages, including α(1→2), α(1→3), and α(1→6) bonds. MAN2B1 is expressed in various tissues, with high levels in the lung, kidney, pancreas, and peripheral blood leukocytes. Dysfunction of MAN2B1 leads to α-mannosidosis, a rare lysosomal storage disorder characterized by the accumulation of undigested glycoproteins in lysosomes, causing cellular dysfunction. Additionally, MAN2B1 is expressed in the nervous system and may be associated with neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
