Target Information
Mouse Insulin-Like 3 (Insl3) is a peptide hormone primarily expressed in the Leydig cells of the testes and the theca cells of the ovaries. It plays a crucial role in gonadal development and function, particularly in the regulation of testicular descent in males and ovarian follicle development in females. Insl3 acts through its receptor, the Relaxin Family Peptide Receptor 2 (RXFP2), to mediate these effects. In mouse models, deficiency in Insl3 leads to cryptorchidism (undescended testes) in males and impaired ovarian follicle maturation in females. Additionally, Insl3 has been implicated in bone metabolism and immune system regulation, highlighting its diverse physiological roles.
