GP3 is a highly glycosylated minor structural protein of the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus 2. It exists as a soluble or membrane-associated protein that forms a multi-protein heterotrimer with GP2 and GP4. This complex is indispensable for viral attachment and entry into porcine alveolar macrophages. GP3 is characterized by significant antigenic variability and extensive N-linked glycans, which contribute to the virus's ability to persist in the host by shielding conserved epitopes from the porcine immune system.
