Target Information
Avian Encephalomyelitis Virus (AEV) is a non-enveloped, positive-sense, single-stranded RNA hepatovirus belonging to the Picornaviridae family. It causes a highly contagious neurological disease primarily affecting young poultry, characterized by ataxia and rapid muscle tremors ("epidemic tremor"). The virus exhibits tropism for the central nervous system and muscular tissues. The major capsid protein, VP1, contains primary neutralizing epitopes and serves as the critical target for serological diagnostics, recombinant subunit vaccine development, and molecular epidemiological tracing.
