Target Information
Mouse Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid 5-Lipoxygenase (Alox5) is a key enzyme involved in the metabolism of arachidonic acid, catalyzing the conversion of arachidonic acid to leukotriene A4 (LTA4), a precursor for various leukotrienes. These leukotrienes play crucial roles in inflammation and immune responses, particularly in the recruitment of immune cells and the regulation of vascular permeability. Alox5 is highly expressed in immune cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, where it contributes to the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. In mouse models, Alox5 has been implicated in various inflammatory diseases, including asthma, allergic reactions, and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, Alox5 has been shown to interact with other signaling pathways, such as the NF-κB pathway, to modulate immune responses. Abnormal expression or function of Alox5 can lead to exacerbated inflammatory responses and contribute to disease pathogenesis.
