Target Information
Mouse Major Prion Protein (Prnp) is a cell-surface glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in prion diseases. It is widely expressed in the nervous system and immune system. Prnp is involved in various biological processes, including the regulation of apoptosis and ion transport. The normal form of Prnp (PrPc) can convert to a pathogenic form (PrPSc), leading to neurodegeneration. Prnp also exhibits antimicrobial activity against certain viruses, suggesting a role in innate immunity. Abnormal expression or mutations in Prnp have been implicated in diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and fatal familial insomnia.
