Target Information
Mouse Endothelin-Converting Enzyme 1 (Ece1) is a membrane-bound metalloprotease that plays a critical role in processing endothelin-1 (ET-1), a potent vasoconstrictor. It is involved in various physiological processes, including embryonic heart tube development, axonogenesis, and gene expression. Ece1 is expressed in multiple tissues such as the alimentary system, central nervous system, and respiratory system. It acts upstream of or within the pharyngeal system development and is predicted to be integral to the plasma membrane. Ece1 is also implicated in diseases like Alzheimer's disease, congestive heart failure, and hypertension. Additionally, Ece1 has been shown to promote lung cancer development by directly targeting protein kinase B (AKT) and is involved in the physiological degradation of atrial natriuretic peptide. In mouse models, Ece1 deletion in association with Endothelin-1 downregulation has been found to ameliorate kidney fibrosis.
