Target Information
Equine serotransferrin, also known as equine transferrin, is a glycoprotein found in blood plasma that plays a key role in iron transport and homeostasis. It binds reversibly to iron (Fe3+), carrying it through the bloodstream and delivering it to cells that require it for various functions, such as oxygen transport and cellular respiration. Serotransferrin also has antimicrobial properties by depriving pathogens of iron, which is essential for their growth. This protein is part of the transferrin superfamily, which is characterized by their ability to bind iron and their conservation across different species.
