Target Information
Chicken insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) is a critical regulator of the insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system, expressed in various tissues such as liver, muscle, kidney, heart, ovary, brain, and intestine. IGFBP2 binds to IGF-1 and IGF-2, modulating their biological activities and influencing cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. In chickens, IGFBP2 produced in the liver appears to inhibit body growth, while locally produced IGFBP2 in the pectoral muscle promotes tissue development. Additionally, IGFBP2 plays a significant role in the chicken ovary, affecting follicle development and steroidogenesis. Studies show that IGFBP2 expression significantly increases in granulosa cells after follicle selection, promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis, while regulating the expression of genes involved in progesterone synthesis. These findings indicate that IGFBP2 is crucial in chicken follicle development and reproductive processes.
