Target Information
Mouse Beta-Glucuronidase (Gusb) is a lysosomal enzyme that plays a crucial role in the degradation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), specifically targeting the terminal β-D-glucuronic acid residues. This enzyme is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis by breaking down complex carbohydrates and preventing the accumulation of undigested substrates in lysosomes. In mouse models, Gusb deficiency leads to mucopolysaccharidosis type VII (Sly syndrome), a lysosomal storage disorder characterized by the accumulation of GAGs in various tissues, leading to skeletal abnormalities, organomegaly, and neurological deficits. Additionally, Gusb has been implicated in the regulation of immune responses and inflammation, with its activity being modulated by various cytokines and growth factors.
