Target Information
Mouse Mannan-Binding Lectin Serine Protease 1 (Masp1) is a critical component of the lectin pathway of the complement system, playing a key role in innate immunity and inflammation. Masp1 is primarily expressed in the liver and is upregulated during the acute phase response. It activates the lectin pathway by cleaving complement components C2 and C4, leading to the formation of the C3 convertase and subsequent complement activation. Masp1 also has promiscuous protease activity, cleaving substrates like factor XIII and fibrinogen, which are involved in coagulation. In mouse models, Masp1 deficiency impairs complement activation and is associated with increased susceptibility to infections. Additionally, Masp1 has been implicated in inflammatory responses, including the release of proinflammatory cytokines and modulation of immune cell adhesion. In sepsis and trauma, Masp1 expression is significantly upregulated, correlating with disease severity and serving as a potential biomarker for these conditions.
