Target Information

Equ a 6 is a 15 kDa calcium-binding C-type lysozyme found in horse milk and secretions. It serves as a vital component of the equine innate immune system, exhibiting potent antimicrobial activity by hydrolyzing 3 beta(1-4) glycosidic bonds in bacterial peptidoglycan. Evolutionarily, it represents a unique structural link between non-calcium-binding lysozymes and 5alpha-lactalbumin. Beyond its protective role, Equ a 6 is recognized as a significant contact allergen, often associated with dermal reactions to equine-derived products and cosmetics.
