Target Information
Bovine connective tissue growth Factor (CTGF), also known as CCN2, is a multifunctional matricellular protein that plays a significant role in the regulation of various biological processes in cattle, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, and angiogenesis. It is also implicated in multiple pathologies, including tumor development and tissue fibrosis. CTGF is expressed by osteoblasts and has been shown to enhance osteoblastogenesis, which is crucial for bone formation. Moreover, it is involved in the regulation of the mammary gland development and lactation, where it may have a role in modulating the effects of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF1) on epithelial cell proliferation. CTGF's actions are mediated through interactions with various protein domains and regulatory proteins, contributing to its diverse functions in both physiological and pathological conditions. As a result, CTGF is considered a potential therapeutic target for diseases characterized by fibrosis and abnormal cell proliferation.
