Target Information
Bovine Apolipoprotein B (APOB) is a critical protein involved in lipid metabolism and transport. It is the primary structural protein of chylomicrons, very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL), which are essential for the transport of lipids, including cholesterol and triglycerides, in the bloodstream. In cattle, APOB exists in two major forms: APOB-100, which is synthesized in the liver and involved in VLDL assembly and LDL receptor-mediated clearance, and APOB-48, which is synthesized in the small intestine and crucial for chylomicron formation and dietary lipid absorption. Mutations in the APOB gene can lead to significant metabolic disorders, such as cholesterol deficiency, which is characterized by reduced plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels and is associated with developmental abnormalities and diarrhea in calves. In bovine research, APOB is used to study lipid metabolism, cardiovascular diseases, and the genetic basis of lipid-related disorders.
