Target Information

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an antibody type exclusively found in mammals. Produced by plasma cells, IgE is composed of monomers that include two heavy chains (ε chains) and two light chains. The ε chain is characterized by having four Ig-like constant domains. IgE is mainly associated with allergic reactions in rabbits, especially when exposed to specific antigens (such as ragweed pollen antigen E). The concentration of IgE antibody may not directly reflect total IgE levels, but its correlation with cellular sensitivity suggests that IgE may play a key role in regulating allergic reactions. This is similar to the function of IgE in humans, which protects the body from pathogens by identifying specific antigens and triggering allergic reactions.
