Target Information

Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are believed to facilitate the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters. The intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (FABP2) is likely involved in the synthesis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. It exhibits a high affinity for binding saturated long-chain fatty acids, whereas its affinity for unsaturated long-chain fatty acids is lower. FABP2 may also contribute to maintaining energy balance by acting as a lipid sensor. In mouse intestines, fatty acid-binding proteins serve diverse roles including lipid uptake, transport, safeguarding the intestinal barrier, and in processes related to obesity and inflammation. These proteins are abundantly expressed in mouse intestinal epithelial cells, such as liver fatty acid-binding protein (LFABP) and intestinal fatty acid-binding protein (IFABP). They have a high affinity for long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic molecules, and are thought to participate in lipid uptake and transport within the intestine.
