Rat PCM1 is a large centrosome-localized scaffold protein with conserved protein-binding domains that sustain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It enriches within pericentriolar regions of proliferating cell populations and organizes multiprotein centrosomal assemblies. Its multi-domain microtubule-regulating structure and cell cycle-dependent distribution differentiate it from secreted signaling cytokines, transmembrane surface receptors and nuclear transcription factors with simplified single-domain assemblies broadly expressed in non-dividing somatic cell subgroups.
