Target Information

Rat glutathione S transferase mu 4 (GSTM4) is a cytosolic phase II detoxification enzyme with conserved structural domains, a core mediator of cellular antioxidant defense and xenobiotic metabolism. It features an N-terminal glutathione-binding domain, a C-terminal hydrophobic substrate-binding pocket, and a conserved active-site motif critical for catalytic conjugation reactions. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm of rat hepatic cells, renal tubular cells and pulmonary epithelial cells, with negligible expression in mature hematopoietic cells. The protein mediates the conjugation of glutathione to electrophilic substrates, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from GSTM1 and other GST isoforms.
