Its membrane-tethered multi-domain structure and ubiquitous tissue distribution differentiate it from secreted signaling cytokines, nuclear chromatin transcription factors and cytosolic scaffold adaptors with simplified single-domain assemblies that exhibit limited expression in specialized cell subsets.
