Target Information

Lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) is a single-chained glycerophospholipid retaining a phosphocholine headgroup on sn-3 and a fatty acyl on sn-1, yielding an amphiphilic cone shape that destabilizes bilayers. Generated from phosphatidylcholine via phospholipase A2 or lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase, the molecule exists as soluble monomers at low nanomolar levels yet inserts rapidly into membranes when concentration rises. Its positive headgroup interacts with anionic lipids while the unesterified sn-2 hydroxyl confers hydrogen-bonding capacity. Antibodies raised against LPC-protein conjugates detect the intact lipid with minimal cross-reactivity to phosphatidylcholine, lysophosphatidylethanolamine or sphingomyelin, enabling direct visualization of LPC enrichment in membranes.

Target Lysophosphatidylcholine
Target Synonym lysoPC; Lysolecithin; 1-Palmitoyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphocholine
