Rat Cytokeratin 17 is a type I intermediate filament protein expressed in basal keratinocytes of complex epithelia, hair follicles, and regenerating wounds. It confers mechanical resilience and anchors cytoplasmic structures during rapid cell turnover. Up-regulated in hyperproliferative and stressed epithelia, cytokeratin 17 serves as a robust marker of activated keratinocytes. As a key cytoskeletal element, it is an important target for studying epithelial repair, differentiation, and related pathologies.
