Target Information

Bovine arginase II (ARG2) is a mitochondrial manganese-dependent hydrolase of the arginase enzyme family. It features a conserved catalytic domain with binuclear metal-binding sites, an N-terminal mitochondrial targeting sequence and substrate-recognition motifs critical for structural integrity. It localizes primarily to mitochondrial matrices, with tissue-specific expression in bovine kidney, small intestine and macrophages, with minimal levels in liver tissue. The protein mediates L-arginine hydrolysis and urea cycle-associated reactions, with conserved motifs for cofactor interaction. Bovine ARG2 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct subcellular localization differentiating it from cytosolic ARG1.
