Target Information

Steroid 17-alpha-hydroxylase/17,20 Lyase is encoded by the CYP17A1 gene in pigs. CYP17A1 is expressed in various tissues, including the adrenal cortex, gonads, and placenta. It catalyzes the 17α-hydroxylation and 17,20-lyase reactions to convert pregnenolone to 17α-hydroxypregnenolone and subsequently to the androgen dehydroepiandrosterone. In pigs and humans, CYP17A1 also catalyzes the delta-16-synthase reaction to produce the 16-androstene steroid 5,16-androstadiene-3β-ol, which is further metabolized to the sex pheromone androstenone.
