Target Information
Cellular tumor antigen p53 is a versatile transcription factor that, upon binding to its target DNA sequences, can induce cell cycle arrest, DNA repair, or apoptosis. Functioning as a tumor suppressor, it prompts growth arrest or apoptosis depending on the physiological context and cell type. p53 hinders cell division by regulating the expression of various essential genes for the process. In mice, cellular tumor antigen p53 is crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis, regulating cell proliferation and differentiation, and responding to DNA damage. Mice lacking p53 have an increased susceptibility to tumors, particularly lymphomas, highlighting its vital role in the DNA damage response. Additionally, p53 is involved in the regulation of cell differentiation.
